The number of registered live births shows a decreasing trend from 2019 - 2021

A total of 8,230 live births were registered in the Province of Samar in 2021. This translates to a crude birth rate of 10.4 or 10 births per 1000 population. The number of registered live births by usual residence of mother showed a decreasing trend from 2019 to 2021. The decrease in the last five years was 29.3 percent, from 11,642 live births in 2017 to 8,230 recorded births in 2021. (See Figure 1)

More males born than females

More males (51.6%) were born than females (48.4%). Sex ratio at birth was 107 or there were 107 males for every 100 females. (See Figure 2)

Highest Live Births by Usual Residence of Mother in Calbayog City

Of the total live births in Samar, 36.3 percent were born in the First District of Samar and 63.7 percent in the Second District. Among cities/municipalities, Calbayog City recorded the highest number of live births with 1,623. While Almagro recorded the least number of live birth with 61. (See Figure 3)

Top 5 Cities/Municipalities with the highest number of registered live births in 2021

Calbayog City recorded the highest number of registered live births with 1,623 or 19.7% of the total live births in Samar. Followed by City of Catbalogan (19.0%), Daram (5.9%), Paranas (5.3%), and Basey (5.2%).

Most number of births occurred in September 2021

Most births occurred in September with 933 (11.3%) of the total births in Samar. It was followed by month of October (11.2%), May (9.6%), July (9.5%), and April (9.4%).
