The economy of the Province of Eastern Samar grew by 8.1 percent in 2023 from its 2022 level, the fastest among all provinces in the Eastern Visayas during the period. The main contributors to the 2023 growth of the province were Transportation and storage with 1.8 percentage points, Construction with 1.29 percentage points, and Mining and quarrying with 1.28 percentage points (Figure 1)

Among the 16 industries, the fastest growth were observed in
Mining and quarrying with 120.5 percent, followed by
Transportation and storage with 47.7 percent, and Other services with 25.3 percent. On the other hand, Agriculture, forestry, and fishing experienced a contraction of 1.9 percent.
Of the six provinces and one Highly Urbanized City of Eastern Visayas, the province of Eastern Samar registered the highest growth rate in 2023, followed by Southern Leyte and the City of Tacloban. These three provinces posted GDP growths higher than the regional GDP growth rate of 6.4 percent. (Figure 2)
