Samar’s Economy Records 6.1 Percent Increase in 2023

The economy of Samar grew by 6.1 percent in 2023, slower than the 6.7 percent growth recorded in the previous year. This growth translates to an increase in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from PhP 57.83 billion in 2022 to PhP 61.35 billion in 2023. Additionally, the GDP in 2023 surpassed the pre-pandemic levels by PhP 7.18 billion. (Figure 1)
Among the 16 industries, the fastest growths were seen in Accommodation and Food Service Activities, which grew by 25.7 percent, followed by Transportation and Storage at 19.1 percent, and Other Services at 15.4 percent. On the other hand, Mining and Quarrying, and Manufacturing, experienced negative growth rates, declining by 0.7 and 5.6 percent, respectively. (Figure 2)
