Borongan City, Eastern Samar – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Eastern Samar successfully concluded a six-day Provincial Level Training for the 2024 Census of Population and Community-Based Monitoring System (POPCEN-CBMS) on June 22, 2024. This comprehensive training was held at Boro Bay Hotel in Borongan City from June 17 to 22, 2024. It was attended by eighteen (18) PSA personnel and twenty-four (24) hired Census Area Supervisors (CAS) that will be assigned to various municipalities and city in the province of Eastern Samar.
The focus of the training was to familiarize participants with the Household Data Collection and Geotagging for the upcoming 2024 POPCEN-CBMS and to prepare them for their roles in the operation. Additionally, the training aimed to equip these participants to serve as trainers for subsequent City/Municipal Level Trainings.
The 2024 Census of Population (POPCEN) seeks to update the population counts in all barangays nationwide, while the Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) is designed to be a systematic, technology-driven method for gathering, processing, and validating detailed local data. These data will be instrumental in planning, implementing programs, and monitoring their impacts at the local level, as well as in fostering community engagement in the data collection process.
PSA Eastern Samar Chief Statistical Specialist Ronnie A. Bajado, motivated the participants by highlighting the significance of the data collected at the local level. He emphasized that this data is crucial for identifying beneficiaries of government programs aimed at poverty reduction and economic development, underscoring its importance in driving targeted and effective policies.
