The Philippine Statistics Authority – Regional Statistical Services Office VIII (PSA – RSSO 8) conducts the “July 2024 Labor Force Survey (LFS) and 2024 Annual Poverty Indicators Survey (APIS) (July 2024 LFS/2024 APIS)” on 08 to 31 July 2024. The 2024 APIS is a rider survey to the July 2024 LFS. This statistical undertaking aims to establish a quantitative framework for planning and policy formulation concerning the labor market, and provides estimates for non-income poverty indicators.

The LFS is a monthly household survey that measures the country's current labor market and is used to calculate national and regional employment and unemployment rates.  This information is used for the projection of future human resource available for economic development and generally provides labor statistics profile of the population across domains and socio- economic groups.

The APIS gathers data that can be used to generate non-income-based poverty situation in the country. It includes questions such as access to drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene as commitment to  the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 and input in the development
of the Multi-dimensional Poverty Index (MPI).

The mode of data collection to be used during the survey is Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) system using tablet. Moreover, the survey will use four replicates of the 2023 Geo-Enabled Master Sample (GeoMS) or around 2,688 eligible sample households regionwide to achieve a reliable estimate at the regional level for indicators on labor and employment and non-income indicators from LFS and APIS.

The statistical activity integrating the July 2024 LFS and 2024 APIS was reviewed and cleared for conduct under the Statistical Survey Review and Clearance System (SSRCS), a mechanism prescribed by RA 10625 or the or the Philippine Statistical Act of 2013 to ensure sound design for data collection; minimize the burden placed upon respondents; effect economy in statistical data collection; eliminate unnecessary duplication of statistical data collection efforts; and, achieve better coordination of government statistical activities.

In line with this, PSA enjoins all sample households to support the survey by providing truthful information to authorized PSA Statistical Researchers who will visit them to conduct personal interview. The Office adheres and commits to the confidentiality of information as stipulated in Section 26 of RA 10625 and Section 8 of RA 10173. All data obtained herein shall be held strictly confidential, and will not be used for taxation, investigation or law enforcement purposes.  Survey results will be released in the form of summaries or statistical tables.
