Province of Leyte’s Economy Continues to Increase
with 6.4 Percent Growth in 2023
The economy of the Province of Leyte (excluding Tacloban City) grew by 6.4 percent in 2023, continuing its upward trend from 2021, with growth rates of 7.0 percent and 5.8 percent in 2021 and 2022, respectively. Moreover, the 6.4 percent growth in 2023 was faster than the 5.8 percent growth in the previous year. This represents an increase in the value of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from PhP 245.34 billion in 2022 to PhP 261.05 billion in 2023. (Figure 1)

In Eastern Visayas, Leyte had the largest economy, contributing 49.9 percent to the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), which was estimated at PhP 523.56 billion in 2023. (Figure 2)
