Samar’s inflation rate slows down to 5.9 percent in May 2022
Samar’s inflation rate slowed down from 6.7 percent in April to 5.9 percent in May. (Figure 1) Meanwhile, a 3.5- percentage point decline was evident between May 2021 and 2022. (Table 1).

Major contributors to the downtrend in inflation rate included the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages group from 6.8 percent in April to 5 percent in May; and Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and other Fuels from 11.3 percent in April to 10.7 percent in May.

Decreases in the prices of food commodities such as cereals at 2.3 percent; fish (live, fresh, chilled or frozen) at 12.7 percent; and fruit-bearing vegetables at 15.6 percent contributed to the overall decline in the inflation rate for the food and non-alcoholic beverages.
Among the commodity groups, seven showed uptrends in May 2022, namely: Transport at 14.6 percent; Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco at 12.9 percent; Personal Care, and Miscellanoues Goods and Services with 1.7 percent; Health with 0.9 percent; Restaurants and Accommodation Services with 0.6 percent; Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance with 0.5 percent; and Information and Communication with 0.1 percent.
