FARMGATE PRICES OF CEREALS
Palay Other Variety Dry recorded an average farmgate price of Php 15.74 per kilogram during the fourth quarter of 2022. This figure is higher by 1.55 percent compared to its average farmgate price of Php 15.50 per kilogram during the same quarter of 2021.
FARMGATE PRICES OF ROOTCROPS
General average farmgate prices of root crops in the province increased during the fourth quarter of 2022. Sweet potato recorded the highest average farmgate price with an increase of 18.0 percent from Php 22.39 per kilogram to Php 26.42 per kilogram.
In contrast, Gabi Cebu for ginataan and Cassava, fresh tubers for food noted lower average farmgate prices by 2.67 percent and 4.51 percent, respectively.
FARMGATE PRICES OF CONDIMENTS
Average farmgate price of Ginger Hawaiian was recorded at Php 38.69 per kilogram during the fourth quarter of 2022. This figure posted a decline of 7.95 percent compared to its average farmgate price of Php 42.03 per kilogram during the same quarter of 2021.
In contrast, Pepper Bell red and green recorded higher average farmgate price by 46.24 percent from Php 103.57 per kilogram to Php 151.46 per kilogram.
FARMGATE PRICES OF FRUIT VEGETABLES
Higher average farmgate prices were noted for fruit vegetables in the province during the fourth quarter of 2022. Tomato reported the highest increment by 15.20 percent from Php 39.41 per kilogram to Php 45.40 per kilogram.
Similarly, increase in the average farmgate prices were observed among Ampalaya and Squash by 3.68 percent and 6.93 percent, respectively while Eggplant long, purple reported a decrease of 8. 64 percent from Php 48.72 per kilogram to Php 44.51 per kilogram.
FARMGATE PRICES OF LEAFY VEGETABLES
Average farmgate price of Pechay native was recorded at Php 46.42 per kilogram during the fourth quarter of 2022. This figure is higher by 16.05 percent from its average farmgate price of Php 40.00 per kilogram during the same quarter of 2021.
FARMGATE PRICES OF FRUITS
General average farmgate prices of fruits in the province was lower during the fourth quarter of 2022. This can be attributed to the decrease in the average farmgate price of Banana latundan, green and Banana saba, green by 11.97 percent and 8.20 percent, respectively.
In contrast, Calamansi posted an increase in its average farmgate price by 8.64 percent from Php 46.74 per kilogram to Php 50.78 per kilogram.
FARMGATE PRICES OF COMMERCIAL CROPS
Copra corriente reported lower average farmgate price during the fourth quarter of 2022 by 37.82 percent from Php 37.20 per kilogram to Php 23.13 per kilogram. Similarly, abaca observed a 10.20 percent decline in its average farmgate price from Php 53.74 per kilogram to Php 48.26 per kilogram.
On the other hand, Coconut matured posted higher average farmgate price by 8.64 percent from Php 8.10 per kilogram to Php 8.80 per kilogram.
FARMGATE PRICES OF LIVESTOCK AND POULTRY
Average farmgate price of hogs upgraded for slaughter increased by 44.40 percent from Php 135.62 per kilogram during the fourth quarter of 2021 to Php 195.84 per kilogram during the fourth quarter of 2022.
Similarly, chicken native/improved posted an increase of 10.80 percent in its average farmgate price from Php 180.51 per kilogram to Php 200.00 per kilogram.
Both animals were reported to be from backyard farms.
EXPLANATORY NOTES
FARM PRICES SURVEY (FPS) is a nationwide survey that collects data on farmgate or producer’s prices received by the farmers for their produce. It is the farmers’ selling price for their produce at the first point of sale excluding transportation or delivery fee.
The purpose/objective of this survey is to gather reliable price information at the farm level specifically to:
• Generates estimates on farmgate prices of major agricultural commodities.
• Develop sets of price indices and to measure the purchasing power of growers of selected agricultural products.
• Analyze the seasonal trends and variations in agricultural prices.
• Serve as input for forecasting future supply, demand and prices of agricultural commodities.
• Assist policy makers in the formulation, implementation and administration of economic programs.
• Guide farmers/raisers in their decision making relative to their agricultural activities geared towards improvement of their profitability.
Farmgate Price is the price received by farmers for the sale of their produce, at the first point of sale, net of freight cost.
