This is a report on marriage statistics gathered from the monthly submissions of civil registry documents by the Local Civil Registry Offices in the province of Biliran. All data presented herein are preliminary tabulations.

 

REGISTERED MARRIAGES

 

 

      The province had a total of 713 marriage registrations in 2022. A total of 162 registered marriages or 22.72 percent of the total registered marriages were from Naval followed by Almeria with 119 registered marriages or 16.69 percent and Caibiran with 106 registered marriages or 14.87 percent.


      Of the total, 683 (95.79 %) registered marriages were timely registrations. Municipalities of Biliran and Kawayan had 100.00 percent proportion of timelyregistration of marriages. Meanwhile, Naval has recorded the highest delayed registration of marriages with 19 late registered marriages or 63.33 percent followed by Culaba with 2 late registered marriages or 13.33 percent share.

      In 2022, most women walked down the aisle from ages 25-29 years old comprising 39.27 percent of the registered marriages. The next age group with the highest number of marriages registered among women was 30-34 years old (19.92 %) and 22-24 years old (13.88 %).

      Similarly, most men opted to marry in the age group 25-29 years old accounting for 36.47 percent of the registered marriages. This was followed by age groups 30-34 years old and 40 years old & over with 25.81 percent share and 17.39 percent share, respectively.

 

 

      The majority (71.39 %) of the registered marriages in 2022 were civil weddings. Roman Catholic Church wedding ceremony accounted for 20.06 percent, while other religious wedding rites comprised 8.27 percent.

       The Municipality of Almeria recorded the most number of Civil weddings with 91 registered marriages or 17.88 percent share. This was followed by Caibiran with 82 registered marriages or 16.11 percent share.

      For the Roman Catholic Church ceremony, Naval had the highest proportion of the registered marriages accounting for 36.36 percent followed by Caibiran with 13.99 percent share. Meanwhile, there were also other religious wedding rites recorded in all municipalities except for Kawayan and Maripipi in 2022.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

TECHNICAL NOTES

Vital statistics are derived from information obtained at the time when the occurrences of vital events and their characteristics are inscribed in a civil register.

Vital acts and events are the births, deaths, fetal deaths, marriages, and all such events that have something to do with an individual's entrance and departure from life together with the changes in civil status that may occur to a person during his lifetime. Recording of these events in the civil register is known as vital or civil registration and the resulting documents are called vital records.

Marriage - is a contract of permanent union between a man and a woman entered into in accordance with law for the establishment of conjugal and family life.

Period when to report the event

     • Marriages that require the issuance of marriage licenses shall be reported to C/MCR for registration not later than fifteen (15) days from the date of marriage. However, marriages that do not require a license such as marriage at the point of death (Article 27); marriages in remote places (Article 28); marriages between members of the ethnic cultural community (Article 33); and marriages between men and women who have lived together for at least five (5) years (Article 34), shall be reported not later than thirty (30) day after the date of marriage.

    Any report made to the LCROs beyond the reglementary period is considered late and can be entered only in the civil register after the informant complies with the requirements for delayed registration.
