Navigating the Digital Landscape: PSA Conducts a Training and Information Dissemination to the Stakeholders 

 

16 October 2024 – TACLOBAN CITY. The “Training on Data Visualization and Orientation on Philippine Statistical System, Classification Standards, Civil Registration, National ID, and Data Appreciation on Poverty Statistics" was conducted—a whole-day activity attended by 60 stakeholders from the PSC, National Government Agencies (NGAs), academia, and statisticians and planning officers. The training aimed to enhance stakeholders' knowledge of service updates, adapting to the digital era of data interpretation, and effective data visualization. It emphasized the need for adaptability in a rapidly evolving digital world.

The training was part of the 35^th National Statistics Month celebration, themed “Advancing Data and Statistics Through Digital Transformation: A Road to an Empowered Nation” . This theme aligns with PSA's commitment to equipping stakeholders with proper guidance and information for enhanced statistical capabilities. Leveraging technology, government agencies can make informed decisions, engage with communities, foster economic growth, and empower citizens for a more inclusive society.

The event began with a welcome address from the Chief Statistical Specialist of PSA-Leyte, who expressed gratitude to all participants and looked forward to a productive session. Morning sessions covered the Philippine Statistical System (PSS), classification standards, civil registration, national ID, and poverty statistics. The classification systems overview provided insight into PSA's standardized processes. Discussions on poverty statistics offered stakeholders a clearer view of Leyte’s socioeconomic conditions, while updates on civil registration and the national ID addressed common questions about ePhilID and Digital ID usage, emphasizing that the digital ID cannot be printed but can be downloaded for use as a valid identification.

Data visualization was the focal point, with Mr. Stephen Paul Cajigas from Eastern Visayas State University Main Campus leading the discussion. Aligned with the event’s theme, he covered the basics of data visualization, effective use of charts and graphs in Microsoft Excel, and an introduction to Jamovi—a statistical software. He emphasized thoughtful use of visualization tools with the insight, “It does not mean you can click it; you have to click it.”

The event concluded with the awarding of certificates and tokens to participants, followed by a closing speech from PMAJ Miguelito Bocade, a PSC member from the Leyte Police Provincial Office (LPPO). He conveyed his appreciation for the relevant and timely training.
