This is a report on marriage statistics gathered from the monthly submissions of civil registry documents by the Local Civil Registry Offices in the province of Biliran. All data presented herein are preliminary tabulations.

 

REGISTERED MARRIAGES

 

The province had a total of 148 marriage registrations during the 4 th quarter of 2020. A total of 81 or 54.7 percent of the total were from Naval followed by Kawayan with 16.2 percent and Almeria which accounted for 9.5 percent. The municipality of Maripipi, meanwhile, had the least registered marriage with only 1 or 0.7 percent. 

Of the total, 143 (96.6 percent) were timely registrations. Most municipalities had 100.0 percent proportion of timely registration of marriages, except for Culaba and Naval, which have recorded delayed registration of marriages. Culaba posted the highest proportion of delayed registration of marriages at 25.0 percent.

 

During the 4 th quarter of 2020, most women walked down the aisle from ages, 25-29 years old. Of the 143 timely registered marriages, 36.4 percent had brides within this age group. The next most popular ages for marriage among women was between 30-34 years old (20.3 percent) and the age groups 18-21 years old (13.3 percent). 

Similarly, men opted to marry at age group 25-29 years old. About 37.1 percent of the timely registered marriages had grooms within this age group. The next most popular ages for marriage among men were between 30-34 years old and 35-39 years old and over with 22.4 percent and 17.5 percent, respectively.

 

 

Majority (76.9 percent) of the timely registered marriages during the 4th quarter of 2020 were civil wedding ceremony. Roman Catholic Church wedding accounted for 19.6 percent, while 3.5 percent were other religious wedding rites.

 

 

 

TECHNICAL NOTES

 

Vital statistics are derived from information obtained at the time when the occurrences of vital events and their characteristics are inscribed in a civil register. Vital acts and events are the births, deaths, fetal deaths, marriages, and all such events that have something to do with an individual's entrance and departure from life together with the changes in civil status that may occur to a person during his lifetime. Recording of these events in the civil register is known as vital or civil registration and the resulting documents are called vital records. 

Marriage - is a contract of permanent union between a man and a woman entered into in accordance with law for the establishment of conjugal and family life. 

Period when to report the event 

• Marriages that require the issuance of marriages license shall be reported to C/MCR for registration not later than fifteen (15) days from date of marriage. However, marriages that do not require a license such as marriage at the point of death (Article 27); marriages in remote places (Article 28); marriages between members of ethnic cultural community (Article 33); and marriages between men and women who have lived together for at least five (5) years (Article 34), shall be reported not later than thirty (30) day after date of marriage. 

Any report made to the LCROs beyond the reglementary period are considered late and can be entered only in the civil register after the informant complies with the requirements for delayed registration.
