This is a report on marriage statistics gathered from the monthly submissions of civil registry documents by the Local Civil Registry Offices in the province of Biliran. All data presented herein are preliminary tabulations.

 

REGISTERED MARRIAGES

 

 

      The province had a total of 199 marriage registrations during the 1st Quarter of 2023. A total of 53 or 26.63 percent of the total registered marriages were from Naval followed by Caibiran with 37 or 18.59 percent and Almeria with 34 or 17.09 percent.

 

      Of the total, 194 (97.49 %) were timely registrations. Some municipalities had 100.0 percent proportion of timely registration of marriages namely, Biliran, Culaba Kawayan, and Maripipi. Caibiran has recorded the highest delayed registration of marriages with 2 or 40.00 percent. The remaining municipalities recorded a single delayed registration of marriage accounting to 20.00 percent share each.

 

 

     During the 1st Quarter of 2023, most women walked down the aisle from ages, 25-29 years old comprising 37.19 percent of the registered marriages. The next age group with the highest number of marriages registered among women was 30-34 years old (30.15 %) and 22-24 years old (12.56 %).

 

     On the other hand, most men opted to marry in the age group 30-34 years old accounting for 33.67 percent of the registered marriages. This was followed by age groups 25-29 years old and 40 & over years old with 30.15 percent share and 15.58 percent share, respectively

 

 

The majority (76.88 %) of the registered marriages during the 1st Quarter of 2023 were civil weddings. Roman Catholic Church wedding ceremony accounted for 10.05 percent, while other religious wedding rites comprised 10.05 percent.


The Municipality of Naval recorded the most number of Civil weddings with 28.88 percent. This was followed by Caibiran and Almeria with 18.95 percent and 18.30 percent, respectively.

For the Roman Catholic Church ceremony, Naval had the highest proportion of the registered marriages accounting for 38.46 percent followed by Caibiran and Cabucgayan with 23.08 percent and 11.54 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, there were also other religious wedding rites recorded in all the municipalities except for Cabucgayan, Culaba and Maripipi.

 

 

 

 

 

 

TECHNICAL NOTES

Vital statistics are derived from information obtained at the time when the occurrences of vital events and their characteristics are inscribed in a civil register.

Vital acts and events are the births, deaths, fetal deaths, marriages, and all such events that have something to do with an individual's entrance and departure from life together with the changes in civil status that may occur to a person during his lifetime. Recording of these events in the civil register is known as vital or civil registration and the resulting documents are called vital records.

      Marriage - is a contract of permanent union between a man and a woman entered into in accordance with law for the establishment of conjugal and family life.

Period when to report the event

Marriages that require the issuance of marriage licenses shall be reported to C/MCR for registration not later than fifteen (15) days from the date of marriage. However, marriages that do not require a license such as marriage at the point of death (Article 27); marriages in remote places (Article 28); marriages between members of the ethnic cultural community (Article 33); and marriages between men and women who have lived together for at least five (5) years (Article 34), shall be reported not later than thirty (30) day after the date of marriage.

      Any report made to the LCROs beyond the reglementary period is considered late and can be entered only in the civil register after the informant complies with the requirements for delayed registration.
