The 35th Civil Registration Month kicked off with a highly productive first week, marked by the successful awarding of Certificates of Live Birth (COLB) in Security Paper (SECPA) to beneficiaries of the Birth Registration Assistance Program (BRAP). Among those who finally received their official birth documents were 99-year-old Teodora Timkang Serdan from Cansirong, Maasin City, and Mario Dobluis Calinawan, a hardworking calamansi vendor from Abgao, Maasin City.

BRAP is a vital initiative aimed at ensuring that every Filipino, especially those from marginalized communities, secures legal proof of identity through birth registration. By assisting individuals who have never had their birth officially recorded.

In this first week of Civil Registration Month, beneficiaries from six barangays in Maasin City—Lunas, San Jose, Libertad, Hinapu Daku, Bato 1, and Cansirong—successfully received their COLBs. Additionally, residents from Saint Bernard, Southern Leyte, were also awarded their birth certificates, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing effort to ensure birth registration.

The awarding of COLBs, particularly to elderly individuals like Teodora Timkang Serdan, underscores the importance of this program in rectifying long-standing gaps in civil registration. Meanwhile, for beneficiaries like Mario Dobluis Calinawan, having a legal identity opens doors to economic opportunities and social services that were previously out of reach.
