HIGHLIGHTS OF THE 2015 CENSUS RESULTS  FOR THE MUNICIPALITY OF TOLOSA

 

Total population of Tolosa as of 2015 is 20,978 

The municipality of Tolosa has a total population of 20,978 as of August 1, 2015 based from the results of the 2015 Census of Population. It was higher by 3,057 persons as compared to 17,921 total count in 2010 and higher by 6,439 persons from its total count of 14,539 in 2000. It ranked 31st among the cities/municipalities in Leyte with high population counts in 2015.   

Its population in 2015 comprised 1.2 percent of the total population of Leyte (excluding Tacloban City).  It grew at the rate of 3.04 percent annually from 2010 to 2015, which is higher by 0.93 percentage point from its population growth rate in 2000 to 2010 of 2.11 percent. Among the 42 cities/municipalities of Leyte, Tolosa posted as the fourth fastest growing municipality in terms of population in 2015.  
 
The household population of Tolosa totaled to 20,978 persons in 2015, which is 17.3 percent higher than its count in 2010 at 17,884 persons. The entire populations of Tolosa in 2015 comprised of household population. 
 
The number of households in 2015 reached 5,073, higher by 1,151 households from 3,922 in 2010.  The average household size in Tolosa declined from 4.6 in 2010 and 4.1 in 2015.  
 
The estimated total land area of Tolosa was 22.54 square kilometers as per data from the Land Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. This is the second smallest municipality in Leyte in terms of land area. The resulting population density in 2015 posted at 931 persons per square kilometer, higher than in 2000 and 2010 at 645 and 795 persons per square kilometer, respectively. Tolosa recorded as the second most densely populated municipality in Leyte since 2000.
 
Of the 15 barangays of Tolosa, Barangay San Roque registered the biggest population with 3,551 persons in 2015 or 16.9 percent of the municipality’s total population.  The remaining barangays which completed the top five (5) barangays in terms of population were Telegrafo (2,468), Opong (2,267), Doña Brigida (1,861) and Quilao (1,505). These barangays also recorded with the highest number of households in the Municipality in 2015. 
 
Meanwhile, Barangay Cantariwis recorded the smallest population in 2015 with 642 persons which accounted 3.1 percent of the total population of Tolosa.  The remaining barangays which completed the bottom five (5) barangays in terms of population were Imelda (687), Capangihan (732), Canmogsay (741), and Burak (817). 
 
The top three (3) fastest growing barangays of Tolosa in terms of population growth rate from 2010 to 2015 were Tanghas (7.67 percent), Burak (6.36 percent) and Opong (4.97 percent).  The rest of the barangays which completed the top 10 fastest growing barangays were Malbog, Canmogsay, Cantariwis, San Vicente, Quilao, San Roque and Doña Brigida with PGRs ranging from 2.30 percent to 4.77 percent. Barangay Poblacion and Imelda recorded negative PGR at -0.22 percent and -0.57 percent, respectively. This means that their population declined in 2015.
