HIGHLIGHTS OF THE 2015 CENSUS RESULTS FOR THE MUNICIPALITY OF SAN MIGUEL

 

Total population of San Miguel as of 2015 is 19,420 

The municipality of San Miguel has a total population of 19,420 as of August 1, 2015 based from the results of the 2015 Census of Population. It was higher by 1,859 persons as compared to 17,561 total count in 2010 and higher by 4,267 persons from its total count of 15,153 in 2000. It is the 7th smallest municipality in 2015 among the 42 cities/municipalities in Leyte.  

Its population in 2015 comprised 1.1 percent of the total population of Leyte (excluding Tacloban City).  It grew at the rate of 1.93 percent annually from 2010 to 2015, which is higher by 0.45 percentage point from its population growth rate in 2000 to 2010 of 1.48 percent. Among the 42 cities/municipalities of Leyte, San Miguel posted as the 18th fastest growing municipality in terms of population in 2015.

The household population of San Miguel totaled to 19,420 persons in 2015, which is 10.6 percent higher than its count in 2010 at 17,557 persons. One hundred percent of the total population of San Miguel in 2015 comprised household population. 

The number of households in 2015 reached 4,309, higher by 646 households from 3,663 in 2010.  The average household size of San Miguel declined from 4.8 in 2010 to 4.5 in 2015. 

The estimated total land area of San Miguel was 145.11 square kilometers as per data from the Land Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.  The resulting population density in 2015 posted at 134 persons per square kilometer, higher than in 2000 and 2010 at 104 and 121 persons per square kilometer, respectively. San Miguel recorded as the second most sparsely populated municipality in Leyte since 2000. 

Of the 21 barangays of San Miguel, Barangay Libtong (East Poblacion) registered the biggest population with 2,466 persons in 2015 or 12.7 percent of the municipality’s total population.  The remaining barangays which completed the top 10 barangays in terms of population were Santa Cruz (1,759), Bahay (1,593), Guinciaman (1,551), Cabatianuhan (1,434), Cayare (West Poblacion) (1,334), Bairan (1,157), Canap (906), Santol (879), and Malaguinabot (791). These barangays also recorded with the highest number of households in the Municipality in 2015. 

Meanwhile, Barangay Capilihan recorded the smallest population in 2015 with 211 persons which accounted 1.1 percent of the total population of San Miguel.  The remaining barangays which completed the bottom 10 barangays in terms of population were Kinalumsan (285), Impo (290), San Andres (434), Malpag (463), Patong (542), Caraycaray (566), Pinarigusan (581), Mawodpawod (678) and Bagacay (748). 

The top three (3) fastest growing barangays of San Miguel in terms of population growth rate from 2010 to 2015 were Bagacay (6.17 percent), Canap (4.83 percent) and Kinalumsan (3.32 percent).  The rest of the barangays which completed the top 10 fastest growing barangays were Guinciaman, Caraycaray, Mawodpawod, Libtong (East Poblacion), Bahay, Santa Cruz, and San Andres with PGRs ranging from 1.71 percent to 3.09 percent.
