HIGHLIGHTS OF THE 2015 CENSUS RESULTS FOR THE MUNICIPALITY OF MATALOM

 

Total population of Matalom as of 2015 is 33,121

The municipality of Matalom has a total population of 33,121 as of August 1, 2015 based from the results of the 2015 Census of Population. It was higher by 2,024 persons as compared to 31,097 total count in 2010 and higher by 2,905 persons from its total count of 30,216 in 2000.

Its population in 2015 comprised 1.9 percent of the total population of Leyte (excluding Tacloban City). It grew at the rate of 1.21 percent annually from 2010 to 2015, which is higher by 0.92 percentage point from its population growth rate in 2000 to 2010 of 0.29 percent. It is the 9th slowest growing municipality in terms of population in 2015.

The household population of Matalom totaled to 33,121 persons in 2015, which is 6.5 percent higher than its count in 2010 at 31,086 persons. The entire population of Matalom in 2015 comprised of household population.

The number of households in 2015 reached 7,537 higher by 524 households from 7,013 in 2010. The average household size in Matalom was maintained 4.4 in 2015 and 2010.

The estimated total land area of Matalom was 132.00 square kilometers as per data from the Land Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. The resulting population density in 2015 posted at 251 persons per square kilometer, higher than in 2000 and 2010 at 229 and 236 persons per square kilometer, respectively.

Of the 30 barangays of Matalom, Barangay Santa Fe registered the biggest population with 2,531 persons in 2015 or 7.6 percent of the municipality’s total population. The remaining barangays which completed the top 10 barangays in terms of population were Cahagnaan (2,016),Santa Paz (1,724), Zaragoza (1,721), Elevado (1,714), Tag-os (1,446), San Salvador (1,348), Templanza (1,328), Caridad Norte (1,325) and Agbanga (1,216). These barangays also recorded with the highest number of households in the municipality in 2015.

Meanwhile, Barangay Caningag recorded the smallest population in 2015 with 283 persons which accounted 0.9 percent of the total population of Matalom. The remaining barangays which completed the bottom 10 barangays in terms of population were Lowan (476), San Vicente (496), Waterloo (522), Monte Alegre (649), Taglibas Imelda (658), San Juan (738), Hitoog (752), Altavista (776) and San Isidro (Pob.) (839).

The top three (3) fastest growing barangays of Matalom in terms of population growth rate from 2010 to 2015 were Bagong Lipunan (4.25 percent), Taglibas Imelda (4.09 percent) and Itum (3.53 percent). The rest of the barangays which completed the top 10 fastest growing barangays were Tag-os, Esperanza, Elevado, Zaragoza, Santa Fe, San Salvador and Caridad Norte with PGRs ranging from 1.87 percent to 2.81 percent.
