HIGHLIGHTS OF THE 2015 CENSUS RESULTS FOR THE MUNICIPALITY OF MATAG-OB
Total population of Matag-ob as of 2015 is 18,373
The municipality of Matag-ob has a total population of 18,373 as of August 1, 2015 based from the results of the 2015 Census of Population. It was higher by 1,284 persons as compared to 17,089 total count in 2010 and higher by 846 persons from its total count of 17,527 in 2000.
Its population in 2015 comprised 1.1 percent of the total population of Leyte (excluding Tacloban City). It grew at the rate of 1.39 percent annually in 2010 to 2015 from a negative -0.25 percent.
The household population of Matag-ob totaled to 18,373 persons in 2015, which is 7.5 percent higher than its count in 2010 at 17,089 persons. The entire population of Matag-ob in 2015 comprised of household population.
The number of households in 2015 reached 4,570 higher by 659 households from 3,911 in 2010. The average household size in Matag-ob declined from 4.4 in 2010 to 4.0 in 2015.
The estimated total land area of Matag-ob was 104.40 square kilometers as per data from the Land Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. The resulting population density in 2015 posted at 176 persons per square kilometer, higher than in 2000 and 2010 at 168 and 164 persons per square kilometer.
Of the 21 barangays of Matag-ob, Barangay Balagtas registered the biggest population with 2,045 persons in 2015 or 11.1 percent of the municipality’s total population. The remaining barangays which completed the top 10 barangays in terms of population were San Vicente (1,989), Santo Rosario (1,741), Santa Rosa (1,378), Mansalip (Pob.) (1,253), Mansahaon (923), San Sebastian (880), San Marcelino (840), Riverside (Pob.) (836) and Candelaria (789). These barangays also recorded with the highest number of households in the municipality in 2015.
Meanwhile, Barangay Malazarte recorded the smallest population in 2015 with 258 persons which accounted 1.4 percent of the total population of Matag-ob. The remaining barangays which completed the bottom 10 barangays in terms of population were San Dionisio (330), Masaba (397), Imelda (437), Cambadbad (534), Bulak (570), Naulayan (580), Bonoy (Pob.) (599), Talisay (Pob.) (632) and San Guillermo (670).
The top three (3) fastest growing barangays of Matag-ob in terms of population growth rate from 2010 to 2015 were Bulak (4.87 percent), Cambadbad (4.39 percent) and Mansalip (Pob.) (3.57 percent). The rest of the barangays which completed the top 10 fastest growing barangays were Naulayan. San Marcelino, San Guillermo, Riverside (Pob.), Talisay (Pob.), Mansahaon and Balagtas with PGRs ranging from 1.49 percent to 2.98 percent.
