HIGHLIGHTS OF THE 2015 CENSUS RESULTS FOR THE MUNICIPALITY OF HINDANG
Total population of Hindang as of 2015 is 20,924
The municipality of Hindang has a total population of 20,924 as of August 1, 2015 based from the results of the 2015 Census of Population. It was higher by 745 persons as compared to 20,179 total count in 2010 and higher by 2,431 persons from its total count of 18,493 in 2000. It ranked 11th among the cities/municipalities in Leyte with low population count in 2015.
Its population in 2015 comprised 1.2 percent of the total population of Leyte (excluding Tacloban City). It grew at the rate of 0.69 percent annually from 2010 to 2015, which is lower by 0.18 percentage point from its population growth rate in 2000 to 2010 of 0.88 percent. Among the 42 cities/municipalities of Leyte, Hindang posted as the second slowest growing municipality in terms of population in 2015.
The household population of Hindang totaled to 20,923 persons in 2015, which is 3.8 percent higher than its count in 2010 at 20,165 persons. Majority of the total population in Hindang in 2015 are household population.
The number of households in 2015 reached 4,994, higher by 225 households from 4,769 in 2010. The average household size of Hindang was 4.2 in the year 2010 and 2015. This municipality ranked 11th with the lowest number of households in Leyte in 2015.
The estimated total land area of Hindang was 57.66 square kilometers as per data from the Land Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. The resulting population density in 2015 posted at 363 persons per square kilometer, higher than in 2000 and 2010 at 321 and 350 persons per square kilometer, respectively.
Of the 20 barangays of Hindang, Barangay Poblacion 1 registered the biggest population with 2,791 persons in 2015 or 13.3 percent of the municipality’s total population. The remaining barangays which completed the top 10 barangays in terms of population were Tabok (2,241), Tagbibi (2,105), Doos Del Sur (1,729), Bontoc (1,639), Maasin (1,447.), Poblacion 2 (1,368), Doos Del Norte (1,252), Bulacan (880) and San Vicente (812). These barangays also recorded with the highest number of households in the Municipality in 2015.
Meanwhile, Barangay Baldoza recorded the smallest population in 2015 with 265 persons which accounted 1.3 percent of the total population of Hindang. The remaining barangays which completed the bottom 10 barangays in terms of population were Katipunan (295), Himacugo (314), Mahilum (318), Anahaw (446), Himokilan Island (525), Canha-ayon (542), Capudlosan (619), Anolon (627) and Mabagon (709).
The top three (3) fastest growing barangays of Hindang in terms of population growth rate from 2010 to 2015 were Anolon (3.36 percent), Tagbibi (2.01 percent) and Tabok (1.55 percent). The rest of the barangays which completed the top 10 fastest growing barangays were Capudlosan, Poblacion 1, Bulacan, Maasin, Canha-ayon, Mabagon and Bontoc with PGRs ranging from 0.29 percent to 1.41 percent.
