HIGHLIGHTS OF THE BUILDING CONSTRUCTION STATISTICS IN LEYTE
FOR YEAR 2016
Total approved building permit applications in Leyte declined to 2,764 in 2016
The total number of building constructions in Leyte for the year 2016 declined by 22.6 percent from 3,570 total applications during the year 2015 to 2,764 total applications in 2016.
The number of applications for residential type of construction building during the reference year dropped by 33.8 percent which totaled to 1,969 from 2,939 applications during the year 2015. This was brought by the decrease in the number of applications for single type of residential building and the duplex/quadruplex. The number of applications for additions/alterations and repairs also slipped by 22.5 percent from 329 in 2015 to 255 applications during the reference year. On the other hand, applications for non-residential type of building construction significantly climb by 78.8 percent during the year 2016 numbering to 540 applications from 302 applications in 2015. It was influenced by the increased number of applications for all types of non-residential building construction. Figure 1 shows the number of approved building permits by type of building during the year 2015 and 2016.
Total value of building construction in Leyte was estimated at P6.1 billion
Although the number of applications decreased in 2016, the total value of building construction increased by 25.2 percent from P4.8 billion in 2015 to P6.1 million in 2016.
Major types of building construction had increased in terms of value in 2016. Residential construction increased by 24.7 percent, with a total value of P2.6 billion from P2.1 billion in 2015. It was triggered by the significant increase in the aggregate value of apartment/accessoria and other types of residential building construction which valued at P1.6 billion from P820.9 million in 2015.
Total value of non-residential building construction recorded the highest increase at 35.9 percent, now valued at P3.1 billion from P2.3 billion in 2015. This was attributed by the significant increase in the total value of two types of non-residential building which were commercial, from P382.4 million to P1.2 billion and industrial type, from P103.8 million to P135.1 million.
Meanwhile, the combined value of additions/alterations and repairs dropped by 24.3 percent during the reference year which valued at P361.9 million in 2016 from P478.4 million in 2015.
Average cost per square meter of residential building construction was estimated at P8,031
The average cost per square meter of residential type of building during the reference year posted at P8,031. This indicates a 26.6 percent growth from P6,341 cost per square meter during the year 2015.
The conglomerate value of apartment, accessoria and other types of residential building recorded the highest average cost per square meter during the year 2016 at P8,409 per square meter or 45.5 percent higher from P5,779 cost per square meter in 2015. The cost of single type of residential building valued at P7,682 per square meter from P7,304 per square meter a year ago.
Meanwhile, the average cost per square meter of duplex and quadruplex slightly declined by 4.2 percent during the reference period which valued at P5,326 cost per square meter from P5,562 per square meter in the previous year.
Average cost per square meter of non-residential building construction at P7,977
Average cost per square meter of non-residential type of building dropped by 19.1 percent which valued at P7,977 per square meter from P9,858 per square meter in 2015.
The institutional/agricultural and other types of non-residential building construction recorded the highest average cost per square meter. It slumped by 14.3 percent from P11,869 per square meter in 2015 to P10,169 per square meter in 2016. Commercial building construction also declined by 3.0 percent from P6,297 during the previous year to P6,107 per square meter during the reference year.
On the other hand, the average cost per square meter of industrial building construction climbed by 45.8 percent which valued at P7,707 per square meter in 2016 from P5,285 per square meter in 2015.
