Corn Production in Leyte recorded a minimal increase in Third Quarter of 2016
The total corn production in Leyte exhibited a minimal increase, from 13,920 metric tons in the third quarter of 2015 to 13,921 metric tons in the third quarter of 2016.
The volume of production of white corn in the province slightly rose to 11,934 metric tons during the quarter in review from 11,841 metric tons in third quarter of 2015, translating a 0.8 percent increase. This type of corn accounted the biggest share in the total corn production of Leyte. Meanwhile, production of yellow corn went down by 4.4 percent posting at 1,987 metric tons during the reference quarter, from 2,079 metric tons in third quarter of 2015.
Area harvested for corn was estimated at 10,465 hectares in third quarter of 2016, slightly higher from 10,459 hectares in the same period of 2015. Area harvested for yellow corn, which contributed the largest share, posted a minimal increase of 0.9 percent, from 9,117 hectares during the third quarter of 2015 to 9,202 hectares in third quarter of 2016. On the other hand, area harvested for yellow corn slipped by 5.9 percent, from 1,342 hectares in third quarter of 2016 to 1,263 hectares in the same period of 2015.
