PSA-RSSO 8 conducts October 2021 LFS, 2021 SOF and Awareness Survey on PCC and PCA

The Philippine Statistics Authority - Regional Statistical Services Office VIII (PSA-RSSO 8) is conducting the October 2021 Labor Force Survey (LFS) and its rider surveys, the 2021 Survey on Overseas Filipinos (SOF) and the Awareness Survey on the Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) and the Philippine Competition Act (PCA) on 08 to 30 October 2021.

The LFS is a nationwide quarterly survey of households conducted to gather data on the demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the population particularly on the distribution of employed, underemployed, unemployed population 15 years old and over. The result of the survey aims to provide a quantitative framework for the preparation of plans and formulation of policies affecting the labor market.

The SOF is a nationwide survey that seeks to gather information on Filipino citizens including overseas workers who left abroad during the last five years.  This survey aims to obtain data on their socio-economic characteristics including their contribution to the economy using the past six months as reference period.  Specifically, this aims to   provide estimates on the amount of cash and in kind transfers received by the families and the mode of remittance. The SOF is a rider survey to the October round of the LFS every year.

Meanwhile, the Awareness Survey on PCC and PCA aims to determine the awareness of households on PCC, its mandate and PCA. Results of the survey will guide PCC in designing strategies to enhance its advocacy and help educate the public on the relevance of market competition in improving consumer welfare. 

A total of 2,688 sample households in Eastern Visayas will be enumerated using the integrated Computer-Aided Data Collection System (CADaCS) for the three surveys.  All data obtained will be held strictly confidential as stipulated in Section 26 of RA 10625 and Section 8 of RA 10173 or Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Confidentiality). The PSA will release data gathered only in the form of summaries or statistical tables.

The mandate of PSA to conduct surveys emanate from Republic Act 10625 or the Philippine Statistical Act of 2013, which states that PSA is primarily responsible for all national censuses and surveys, sectoral statistics, consolidation of selected administrative recording systems and compilation of national accounts. 

The office assures the public that required public health and safety measures to contain COVID-19 will be strictly observed in all phases of field operations.  All PSA personnel and hired statistical researchers who will be deployed are in good health condition and will strictly follow precautionary measures against COVID-19, such as wearing of face mask and face shield, physical distancing, proper hygiene and sanitation, and wearing of PSA ID. They shall likewise observe all protocols laid down by the Local Government Units (LGUs).
